A man is facing charges under the Highway Traffic Act after a vehicle was driven into the Otonabee River on Monday morning.
Police found the truck partially submerged in the river off of County Road 32, south of Lakefield, around 7 a.m.
“The driver had exited the vehicle prior to police arrival,” Peterborough County OPP Const. Joseph Ayotte told The Examiner.
“No rescue was required.”
The man, who has not been identified by police, did not have any injuries, said Ayotte.
The male driver was the sole occupant of the truck, Ayotte said.
According to Ayotte, police are still working to determine how the truck ended up in the river. The OPP investigation is ongoing.
By 9 a.m., the truck had been removed from the water, he said.
The driver was charged with careless driving and driving while under suspension.
