The NHL announced Saturday evening it will investigate an allegation by hockey player Evander Kane’s wife that the San Jose Sharks left winger bet on his own games and deliberately tried to lose for gambling profit.

Driving the news: Anna Kane made the claims via her Instagram account. “How does the NHL let a compulsive gambling addict still play when he’s obviously throwing games with bookies to win money?” states one story post. “Hmm maybe someone needs to address this.”

What they’re saying: The National Hockey League said in a statement that it was aware of a social media post, by Anna Kane, that “bet on NHL games,” saying “integrity of our game is paramount and the League takes these allegations very seriously.”
