Draymond Green, even if he’s not explicitly trying to, managed to take another shot at Kevin Durant.
Green, after the Golden State Warriors’ big 107-88 win over the Boston Celtics in Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday night, managed to get another jab in at his former teammate.
“[Our offense] all starts with Steph [Curry],” Durant said. “When KD was here, our offense still started with Steph. That’s the way it’s going to be.”
In his defense, he’s not wrong.
Curry had a game-high 29 points in Sunday’s win and shot 5-of-12 from behind the arc. The 34-year-old set an NBA Finals record in Game 1 of the series, too, after he drained six 3-pointers in the opening quarter. He’s averaged 26.4 points and shot 39% from behind the arc so far in the postseason.
Curry, who was named the Western Conference finals MVP, is undoubtedly the centerpiece of the Warriors — and he has been for years.
Even when Durant was still on the Warriors, Curry averaged more points per game in all three seasons that they were teammates. Curry averaged more assists per contest in two of those three seasons, too.
Though Durant was instrumental in helping Golden State win those two titles, one could easily argue that Curry was the star of the franchise. If nothing else, they wouldn’t have been able to pull that off without him.
Though Green’s comment on Sunday isn’t necessarily a purposeful slight at the Brooklyn Nets star, it’s easy to see why it could be taken that way. Durant called Green out earlier this week on Twitter after Green told Colin Cowherd that he didn’t think Curry needed to win a Finals MVP in order to solidify his NBA resume. Durant won that award over Curry in both championships they won.

The Warriors’ win on Sunday evened the Finals 1-1. Game 3 is set for Wednesday night in Boston.
