Keep in mind that the following player write-ups were constructed earlier in the day, and sometimes injury/rest situations can alter the fantasy landscape. NOTES
The Western Conference Finals move on to Game 4 in LA with the Suns up 2-1. Vegas has an over/under of 218 points and the Suns are minus-1 points. Some books have it as even. Though Kawhi Leonard will remain sidelined, Chris Paul is back for Phoenix. Cameron Payne and Marcus Morris Sr. both have injury designations for tonight’s game, but it sounds like both will probably play.
TOP PLAYS
Paul George – G – LAC
Your must-have on this showdown slate is George, who has been consistently great in every playoff game without Kawhi Leonard. Don’t overthink this one and lock him into that top multiplier slot.
Devin Booker – G – PHX
Booker is still the No. 2 salaried player despite his struggles in the last two games. Kudos to the Clippers for throwing the defensive toolbox right in his face because it is working. Can he adjust? Will it be tonight or will getting back to Phoenix for Game 5 provide the boost he needs? He’s a perfect example of why you differentiate that top multiplier spot with multi-entry tournament entries, and tonight, if he has that bounce-back game, could be the GPP difference maker. Very few will slot him in there, but for one lineup, at least, I’m doing it. For the others, he still gives good odds at a positive return on value in the star/superstar/pro slots.
Chris Paul – PG – PHX
I expect a lot of people to have Paul higher in their lineups than Booker, at least on the tiered multiplier sites like FanDuel and Yahoo. Paul was back to his normal self after missing the first two games of the series, with 12 assists, three steals and 15 points in Game 3. One of the tough choices is Paul or Ayton tonight, and I prefer Paul.
NOTABLE BARGAINS
Reggie Jackson – PG – LAC is an obvious salary saver in the mid-range tonight. He has been fantastic without Leonard, helping the Clippers close out the Jazz and throughout the first three games of this series. His scoring is great, but his ability to create turnovers is also having an impact on games. Jackson has 10 steals in his last five games which also boosts his fantasy lines. He’s a very solid play for the price tonight.
Terrence Mann – G – LAC might still be a better real basketball player than a fantasy star, too soon to tell, but he’s cheap enough to deserve a spot in tonight’s lineups, at least. Back in the starting lineup for Game 3, Mann returned to the 20-plus fantasy point threshold I’d like to see for his price ($4400 DK, $9500 FD, and $14 Yahoo). If he starts again tonight, which I’d expect, the 30-ish minutes should be enough for him to get there again with his multi-category production.
Patrick Beverley – PG – LAC is going to provide a lower level of fantasy goodness, but he is a critical part of the defend Booker strategy, so the minutes should be there. He’s typically good for a couple steals, a few layups or three-pointers and enough rebounds and assists to get you to 20 fantasy points. For his salary ($3800 DK, $10 Yahoo, $9000 FD), it’s not bad.
Torrey Craig – G/F – PHX is a bigger bargain with more risk and less upside. He played 11-15 minutes off the bench in Games 1-3, similar to what he saw in the Denver series. However, while in Game 1 he led the team with a plus-18 while on the court, scoring eight points and nabbing six rebounds with one assist, his productivity since then has dropped. He can be a multi-category asset, and at just $1000 (DK), he’s one way to fit another second-tier star in your third multiplier slot. I’m more inclined to go with Cameron Johnson on FanDuel or Yahoo where their low salaries are more similar.
OTHER NOTES
Deandre Ayton – C – PHX is a tricky decision tonight. With Paul back, I’d just rather have the assists and steals. However, if you need the extra salary, Ayton’s not a bad option. In this series, he’s been a bit better than his average, especially on the offensive end of the court, and he needs to keep it up with Booker struggling. The Suns need to keep finding a way to make the most of Booker garnering the double-team on so many possessions and so far, Ayton has been the right answer.
Ivica Zubac – C – LAC is far cheaper than Ayton, but in a bigger role the last two games, he has produced 31 and 44 fantasy point lines (both double-doubles) in 33-34 MPG. That’s not so far off Ayton’s mark, and Zubac is about half Ayton’s salary on Yahoo and DraftKings. On FanDuel, Zubac’s price has shot up, making the decision a tougher one as the Clippers are inclined to play small some of the time. Still, teams tend to stick with what works, so I’d expect the same kind of opportunity for Zubac tonight, making him a nice GPP play.
