Jun. 26—LONG POND — John Hunter Nemechek passed his boss Kyle Busch on a restart with seven laps to go to win the CRC Brakleen 150 NASCAR Trucks Series race Saturday at Pocono Raceway.
It is the fifth win of the season for Nemechek in the No. 4 Toyota and 11th of his career. It also is his first victory at Pocono in four starts.
Busch, the Cup Series regular who is the all-time wins leader in the Truck Series and running the last of his five allotted races this season, wound up second. Sheldon Creed was third. Tyler Ankrum and Austin Hill rounded out the top five.
After running in the Cup Series last season, the 24-year-old Nemechek dropped down to the Truck Series this season and joined Kyle Busch Motorsports.
This is the sixth win in the past seven Trucks races at Pocono for KBM.
Stewart Friesen crashed in turn 1 on lap 51 to bring out the final caution of the race.
On the lap-54 restart, Nemechek was able to pass Busch for the lead.
Creed tried to overtake Busch for second on lap 58. The two trucks got loose and that enabled Nemechek to pull away to a 1.337-second win.
After doing a victory burnout, Nemechek stopped his truck at the start-finish line, got out and took a bow, which is Busch’s tradition celebratory move.
