Sep. 5—HURON — The Mitchell High School girls golf tennis team won the Huron triangular Saturday over Aberdeen Central and Brandon Valley.
The Kernels defeated Aberdeen Central 7-2, beat Brandon Valley 7-2 and shut out the host Huron 9-0.
Mitchell (10-2) went 4-2 in singles play against Aberdeen Central, losing No. 1 singles and No. 5 singles. Atlanta Stahle lost to Aberdeen Central’s Emily Ringenberg 10-8 in No. 1 singles and Sydney Reynolds lost to Aberdeen Central’s Laney Gonsor 10-8 in No. 5 singles.
Olivia Huber defeated Aberdeen Central’s Carly Comstock 10-6 at No. 2 singles, while Delaney Degen beat Julia Knie 10-2 at No. 3 singles. Julia Platt scored a 10-6 win over Alice Vogel at No. 4 singles and Megan Mastel won 10-4 over Avery tennant at No. 6 singles.
Stahle and Huber would also top Ringenberg and Vogel at No. 1 doubles, 10-9 (5), and Platt and Reynolds earned a 10-5 win over Comstock and Knie at No. 2 doubles. Mastel and Degen also beat Gonso and Galvin 10-3 at No. 3 doubles.
Against Brandon Valley, Huber suffered the lone loss for Mitchell in singles play, but it wasn’t easy. Brandon Valley’s Marie Pelletier beat Huber 10-9 (4) at No. 2 singles. In No. 1 singles, Stahle defeated Michaela Jerke 10-8.
Amber Moller defeated Adriauna Alexander in No. 3 singles 10-5, while Platt beat Abby Boersma at No. 4 singles 10-2. Both Reynolds and Mastel won their singles matches 10-3 over Brandon Valley’s Teya Badger and Melia Thelen.
In doubles play, Moller and Reynolds beat Alexander and Thelen 10-1 at No. 2 doubles. Mastel and Degen also were successful defeating Meyes and Badger 10-3 at No. 3 doubles. Stahle and Huber surrendered the lone doubles loss for Mitchell, losing 10-7 at No. 1 doubles.
In singles play against Huron, Mitchell was victorious in all six matches, including a 10-0 win by Stahle over AnneClaire Rubish in No. 1 singles. Huber defeated Elizabeth Heinen 10-4 at No. 2 singles, while Moller beat Bianca Medina 10-6 at No. 3 doubles.
In No. 4 singles, Platt had a 10-3 win over Bethany Engelhart. Reynolds had a 10-4 victory at No. 5 singles over Say Ma, while Mastel beat Ann Hoek at No. 6 singles 10-1.
In doubles action, Stahle and Huber defeated Heinen and Rubish 10-0 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Moller and Reynolds beat Medina and Engelhart 10-4. Mastel and Degen also beat Ma and Hoek at No. 3 doubles 10-3 to cap off the triangular victory for the Mitchell girls tennis team.
Mitchell plays Sioux Falls Roosevelt in a dual Monday at 4 p.m. at Hitchcock Park.
