The Yankees will reportedly be in attendance to watch veteran LHP Cole Hamels throw at his showcase on Friday in Texas, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
The Mets will also attend Hamels’ showcase as they look for rotation help, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.
This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, as the Yankees often attend all the showcases of this type, per Sherman.
Hamels, 37, last pitched in the big leagues for the Atlanta Braves in 2020, starting just one game with the team in the shortened season. The lefty has gone 163-122 with a 3.43 ERA and 2,560 strikeouts over 15 seasons.
He went 114-90 over 10 seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies from 2006-2015, and helped lead them to the 2008 World Series title where he was named the World Series MVP. Hamels was a three-time All-Star (2007, 2011, 2012) in Philly and earned another All-Star nod in 2016 as a member of the Texas Rangers.
Coincidentally, Hamels helped the Yankees win the World Series in 2009 by allowing five earned runs over 4.1 IP in the Game 3 loss for the Phillies.
