Mets C Bruce Maxwell

The Mets have made a minor transaction on Sunday, announcing they have traded Triple-A Syracuse C Bruce Maxwell to the San Francisco Giants for cash considerations.

Maxwell, 30, signed with the Mets last season, and it was significant at the time as he finally broke back into MLB since the Oakland A’s cut him in 2018. Maxwell was the first MLB player to kneel during the national anthem back in 2017 in the midst of Colin Kaepernick leading the way during his time with the 49ers.

After getting cut, Maxwell didn’t get any offers to join another club, and he suspected his kneeling was a big reason why.

Since joining the Mets, Maxwell has played just nine games with the Syracuse Mets, owning a .174 average in 23 at-bats.

Maxwell was a second-round pick by the A’s back in 2012, but has played a total of 127 games from 2016-18 in the bigs.
