The Mets revealed a slew of promotions in an internal memo over the weekend, including the elevations of Bryn Alderson and Ian Levin to assistant general manager, sources told SNY.

Acting GM Zack Scott was not elevated to permanent general manager in this round of promotions. Scott has earned many fans inside the organization after taking over from Jared Porter in a pinch last winter, and could yet find himself in the top job.

Alderson joined the Mets as a pro scout in late 2011. Levin has been with the organization since 2005. Both have steadily risen up the ranks and assumed greater responsibility this year working with the coaching staff and players.

Bryn Alderson is the son of team president Sandy Alderson, but has distinguished himself among colleagues with his work learning the scouting side of the game. This year, as pro scouting director, he has overseen the department as responsible as any other for the Mets’ success in the face of many significant injuries.

Any fan who is grateful for acquisitions like Kevin Pillar, Jonathan Villar, Billy McKinney, Albert Almora Jr., Aaron Loup, Jose Peraza and All-Star Taijuan Walker can credit the Mets’ pro scouts for their diligence in choosing the right depth pieces, some of which became much more than that.

Even more than Bryn Alderson, the rank-and-file scouts deserve accolades for the Mets’ first place standing at the All-Star break. Among those scouts who earn praise internally for this work are assistant director Jeff Lebow, Jason Stein, David Keller, Joseph Kowal and Conor Brooks.

Levin joined the Mets as a media relations intern in 2005 and soon moved to baseball operations. His experience in the years since includes both analytics and player development.
