Taijuan Walker delivers pitch to home vs. Orioles

Here is the latest news and possible return dates for the Mets players on the IL…

Taijuan Walker (side)

Walker threw live batting practice on Tuesday at Citi Field, per MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo.

That Walker faced live hitters instead of throwing a bullpen session is a very encouraging sign.

The injury and process to bring him back will be similar to Jacob deGrom‘s, manager Luis Rojas said. DeGrom missed two starts with his side injury.

Potential return date: Late May/Early June

Johneshwy Fargas (shoulder)

Fargas suffered a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder while crashing into the center field fence on May 24.

Potential return date: TBD

J.D. Davis (hand)

The next step for Davis, who is playing rehab games at Triple-A Syracuse, is to play back-to-back nine inning games.

He missed Sunday’s game due to a stiff neck.

Potential return date: Later this week

Pete Alonso (hand)

Luis Rojas said on May 24 that Alonso — who is already taking grounders at first base — was ready to swing with two hands. There is going to be a progression, potentially including rehab games, before he rejoins the club.

Zack Scott said he expects Alonso rejoin the team next week.

Potential return date: Late May

Seth Lugo (elbow)

Lugo has thrown two shutout innings in his rehab assignment — one with St. Lucie and one with Syracuse.

Scott gave a positive update on Lugo on May 24.

“Seth’s progressing well. He’s on pace to come off the IL pretty much as soon as he can. … He’s probably looking right around [May 31st] or the 1st [of June].”

Potential return date: May 31

Kevin Pillar (nose)

Pillar suffered multiple nasal fractures when he was hit in the face by a 95 mph fastball against the Braves in Atlanta.

He began light activities on May 24 but will not be returning when first eligible on May 28.

Potential return date: June

Noah Syndergaard (TJS recovery)

Syndergaard gets the ball for Low-A St. Lucie on May 25 in what will be his second rehab start.

He will likely advance to Triple-A Syracuse before being activated.

Potential return date: Mid June

Brandon Nimmo (finger)

Nimmo told reporters on May 22 that he’s “feeling pretty good right now,” but he’s still yet to take swings after reaggravating his finger injury on May 13.

The outfielder said he’s dealing with “a pesky little nerve” in his left index finger, and he’s still feeling pain when making contact.

Potential return date: TBD

Carlos Carrasco (hamstring)

Before Carrasco’s rehab was paused, he was expected to return at some point in May. But things have been slowed down. Carrasco had thrown six innings in simulated games before the slowdown.

“If I’m gonna put a time estimate on it, probably looking at maybe late June, early July, that type of time frame,” acting GM Zack Scott said on May 24.

Potential return date: Late June/Early July

Michael Conforto (hamstring)

Conforto suffered a significant hamstring strain on May 16.

Zack Scott said on May 24 that a possible return date for Conforto is late June.
