Jeff McNeil makes swing vs. Diamondbacks

Jeff McNeil makes swing vs. Diamondbacks

Here is the latest news and possible return dates for Mets players on the IL…

Luis Rojas revealed that McNeil is on track to begin his rehab assignment some time this weekend.

“He’s been progressing in every aspect, in every area from doing his ground balls, from doing his high-speed running, swinging the bat,” he told reporters on June 8. “He’s been doing everything and the next step will be this weekend to go on the rehab assignment. And then progress per inning, five innings to seven innings to the nine innings, back-to-back nine innings before he comes to us.”

SNY’s Andy Martino noted earlier Tuesday that McNeil may be headed to Triple-A Syracuse this week to start playing again.

McNeil suffered a significant hamstring strain on May 16.

Potential return date: Mid June

Albert Almora Jr. (shoulder)

Almora will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse on June 8, Rojas announced.

Almora landed on the IL on May 12 after crashing into the center field wall at Citi Field while trying to make a catch.

Potential return date: Mid June

Luis Guillorme (oblique)

Guillorme could be coming back this weekend.

“Guillorme is playing seven tonight, that’s the plan. And then he’ll play tomorrow and the next day and we’ll see if he can probably activate for the weekend. That’s the plan right now,” Rojas said June 8.

Guillorme’s last at-bat with the Mets was on April 24.

Potential return date: June 11-13

Michael Conforto (hamstring)

Rojas told reporters on June 8 that Conforto is progressing well and could be headed for a rehab assignment in “a couple of weeks.”

“He’s been with us the entire road trip. He’s working really hard. He’s hitting. You’re going to see him swinging potentially in one of our groups in BP,” he said.

Conforto suffered a significant hamstring strain on May 16, and Rojas said in early June that he is with the team hitting:

“Michael’s hitting on the field here with us, and he’s doing almost everything. But he’s progressed really well. Every day, here early working with the performance staff to his improve his hamstring strength.”

Zack Scott said on May 24 that a possible return date for Conforto is late June. That would be on par with the rehab assignment news from Rojas.

Potential return date: Late June

Brandon Nimmo (finger)

Rojas told reporters on June 6 that Nimmo is taking dry hacks, but still not hitting baseballs.

“Brandon is taking some dry swings and trying to get the feel of the bat rolling there in the hand.”

The Mets are still waiting until Nimmo can swing pain-free before planning his next rehab assignment.

The outfielder said on May 22 after returning from his rehab assignment that he was dealing with “a pesky little nerve” in his left index finger.

Potential return date: TBD

J.D. Davis (hand)

Rojas gave the latest update on Davis on June 6, saying that he had actually been wearing a splint on his hand for the last few days.

“J.D’s not swinging right now. Right now, he’s actually wearing a splint and I think it’s going to be for a matter of three days or something that he’s got left wearing it,” Rojas explained. “Not swinging and looking for some improvement there so he can start a progression swinging.”

Potential return date: TBD

Carlos Carrasco (hamstring)

Before Carrasco’s rehab was paused, he was expected to return at some point in May. But things have been slowed down. Carrasco had thrown six innings in simulated games before the slowdown.

Carrasco is now working on strengthening his hamstring to prevent setbacks, Rojas said in early June.

Rojas added that Carrasco has also thrown bullpen sessions in New York.

Potential return date: Late June/Early July

Noah Syndergaard (TJS recovery)

Syndergaard was shut down from throwing for six weeks on May 27, but the right-hander sounds optimistic about his outlook.

Dealing with inflammation in his right elbow, Syndergaard tweeted Friday that he’s “A-OK,” adding “See you soon.”

A recent MRI revealed the inflammation, but it did not reveal any structural damage.

After the six-week shutdown, Syndergaard will need to again build his arm strength up, meaning a best-case scenario for his return would likely be late August or September.

Potential return date: August

Johneshwy Fargas (shoulder)

An MRI confirmed that Fargas suffered a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder while crashing into the center field fence on May 24. He was placed on the IL on May 26.

Potential return date: TBD

Tommy Hunter (back)

Hunter was placed on the IL on May 21 due to lower back pain.

Potential return date: TBD

Jordan Yamamoto (shoulder)

The Mets originally placed Yamamoto on the 10-day IL before transferring him to the 60-day lL on May 25 to make room on the 40-man roster for the newly acquired Billy McKinney.

Potential return date: Late July
