Jacob deGrom delivers pitch front view June 2021 at Citi Field against Cubs

Here is the latest news and possible return dates for Mets players on the IL…

Jacob deGrom (forearm tightness)

DeGrom threw in the outfield at Citi Field on July 21, though not at anything near full force.

DeGrom has been improving, Mets manager Luis Rojas said on July 20, adding that some tightness in deGrom’s forearm had diminished but that he hadn’t yet thrown at that point.

Acting Mets GM Zack Scott also gave an update on deGrom on July 20 while speaking with Jon Heyman and Cody Decker on the Big Time Baseball podcast.

“It’s pretty mild,” Scott said. “We’re not too concerned long-term. When he’ll be back, it could be pretty quick. It all depends on symptoms. He’ll take a little time to rest it, let the inflammation kind of go down and then start ramping it up. I don’t expect it to be a loing IL stint, but it’s always hard to predict these things because it’s all symptom-based.”

DeGrom is on the 10-day IL and is eligible to return as soon as July 25, though he will likely be out longer.

He said on Sunday that this injury is different than other injuries he dealt with earlier this season since it was not the result of a swing while batting.

Potential return date: TBD

Noah Syndergaard (TJS recovery)

Syndergaard continued his throwing program on July 21, throwing in the outfield before the Mets’ game against the Reds in Cincinnati.

Syndergaard still needs to start throwing from the mound and perhaps advance to live batting practice before going on a rehab assignment.

He was shut down from throwing for six weeks on May 27 after an MRI revealed inflammation, but no structural damage — a setback that ended his first rehab assignment.

Potential return date: Sept. 1

Carlos Carrasco (hamstring)

Carrasco continued his rehab assignment from a torn right hamstring on July 20, allowing five earned runs on three hits with three walks and a strikeout over 1.2 IP and 41 pitches.

Carrasco was pulled from the game after tossing 33 pitches in the second inning. The three hits against him were all home runs.

Luis Rojas said earlier this month that he expects a return from Carrasco in late July.

Potential return date: Late July

Francisco Lindor (oblique)

Acting Mets GM Zack Scott gave an update on Lindor on July 20 while speaking with Jon Heyman and Cody Decker on the Big Time Baseball podcast.

Scott, who cited four-to-six weeks as a usual timeframe to return from an oblique injury, said Lindor is “already doing better at this point” in his recovery than some other Mets players who recently had similar injuries.

Lindor landed on the IL with a right oblique strain on July 17.

Potential return date: Mid-to-late August

Jose Peraza (fractured middle finger)

Peraza was placed on the 10-day IL on July 20 with a fractured right middle finger. Over 52 games, he’s batting .205 with six home runs and 19 RBI.

Potential return date: TBD

David Peterson (right oblique strain)

Peterson is close to getting back on a mound but is still “weeks away” from returning, per Mike Puma of The New York Post.

On July 11, Peterson played catch for the first time since getting injured.

Rojas announced on July 3 that Peterson has a strained right oblique between Grades 1 and 2, and could miss up to eight weeks, but that Peterson’s absence could be shorter than that.

Peterson was originally placed on the IL on July 2 (retroactive to July 1) with right side soreness.

Potential return date: August

Corey Oswalt (right knee inflammation)

The Mets announced on July 6 that Oswalt has been placed on the 10-day IL, retroactive to July 5, with right knee inflammation.

The 27-year old Oswalt started for the Mets on July 4, allowing three earned runs over 4.0 innings of work against the Yankees.

Potential return date: TBD

Sean Reid-Foley (right elbow inflammation)

Reid-Foley was placed on the 10-day IL, retroactive to July 1, with right elbow inflammation on July 4 prior to the team’s doubleheader against the Yankees.

In 12 games this season, the RHP is 2-1 with a 5.23 ERA and 26 strikeouts over 20.2 IP. In his last outing on June 30 against the Atlanta Braves, Reid-Foley allowed three runs on four hits with a walk in just 0.1 IP.

Potential return date: TBD

Jordan Yamamoto (shoulder)

The Mets originally placed Yamamoto on the 10-day IL before transferring him to the 60-day lL on May 25 to make room on the 40-man roster for Billy McKinney.

Potential return date: August

Robert Gsellman (lat)

The Mets transferred Gsellman to the 60-day IL on June 23, shortly after he was shut down from throwing for six weeks due to a lat injury.

Gsellman last pitched on June 19 against the Washington Nationals, when he allowed one run on three hits in 2.0 innings while serving as the opener.

Potential return date: September

Joey Lucchesi (Tommy John surgery) and Dellin Betances (shoulder surgery) are out for the season
