Jacob deGrom delivers pitch front view June 2021 at Citi Field against Cubs

Here is the latest news and possible return dates for Mets players on the IL…

Jacob deGrom (shoulder) * not on IL

DeGrom believes his right shoulder injury came June 16 on a swing in the Mets‘ 6-3 win over the Chicago Cubs, he told MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo June 18 before New York’s game at the Washington Nationals.

“I feel like if it’s anything serious, you can’t touch it (without pain),” deGrom said. “It normally gets sore there after I pitch, but not normally during a game. … (To feel it) midgame and then have it not go away, it’s not a normal time to get it. The first two innings, I felt completely fine. I think when I swung and missed up and away, I just aggravated it trying to slow the bat down and then I felt it when I was throwing.”

DeGrom threw a side session on June 18 at Nationals Park, manager Luis Rojas said. Rojas said deGrom felt good after the session and that he could possibly throw his regular between-starts bullpen session on June 19.

After his MRI came back clean, deGrom played catch at Citi Field, with Rojas saying the plan was for deGrom to continue with his normal between-starts routine.

The Mets have not revealed when deGrom will start next, though it remains possible he will get the ball on Monday, June 21 against the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field, which would be on regular rest.

Potential return date: Could start June 21

Brandon Nimmo (finger)

Nimmo has hit on the field and could begin a rehab assignment next week, Luis Rojas said on June 18.

Nimmo recently received “second and third” opinions on his finger injury, learning that he’s actually dealing with a small ligament tear (rather than a nerve issue) that should heal on its own.

Potential return date: Late June

J.D. Davis (hand)

Davis recently took dry swings, Luis Rojas said on June 18, with Rojas adding that the next step for Davis would be hitting baseballs.

Per Rojas, while there is no timetable for when Davis might begin a rehab assignment, things could develop quickly.

Potential return date: TBD

Jeff McNeil (hamstring)

Manager Luis Rojas said on June 17 after the team’s 2-0 loss to the Chicago Cubs that McNeil is expected back either Sunday in Washington D.C. or Monday back home “if everything goes accordingly.”

McNeil has gone 3-for-12 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored for Triple-A Syracuse in three rehab games.

Potential return date: June 20 or 21

Michael Conforto (hamstring)

Conforto has gone 1-for-7 in two rehab starts with Triple-A Syracuse, starting on June 16.

The expectation is that Conforto will be able to return to the Mets at some point the week of June 20.

Potential return date: Late June

Carlos Carrasco (hamstring)

Carrasco has restarted his throwing program, Luis Rojas said on June 16.

Carrasco is throwing off flat ground, but has not yet advanced to throwing from the slope of a mound.

Mets acting GM Zack Scott said on June 11 that Carrasco recently had a PRP injection.

Mets president Sandy Alderson said on June 10 during an interview on MLB Network that he’s “hopeful” Carrasco will be able to return at some point between early and late July.

Potential return date: July

Dellin Betances (shoulder)

Betances was hit hard on June 16 during his second rehab outing for Low-A St. Lucie, allowing five runs on three hits while walking two and striking out none in just 1/3 of an inning.

He began his rehab assignment on June 13, pitching a scoreless inning while striking out two and walking one.

Betances has been out since April 7.

Potential return date: TBD

Albert Almora Jr. (shoulder, toe)

Almora began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse on June 8 and had played eight games as of June 17.

The expectation, per Rojas on June 14, is for Almora to rejoin the team this weekend.

Almora did just that June 18, rejoining the Mets entering a four-game series against the Nationals, via MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo. Evidently, though, a second injury kept Almora hobbled — a torn ligament in his right big toe.

“I felt pretty good like a week after it happened, but it was unstable,” said Almora, who recently visited a foot specialist. “I had to let that heal. With a little bit of support right now, I feel fine.”

The Mets plan to activate Almora before one of their two games June 19.

Almora landed on the IL on May 12 after crashing into the center field wall at Citi Field while trying to make a catch.

Potential return date: June 18-20

Noah Syndergaard (TJS recovery)

Syndergaard was shut down from throwing for six weeks on May 27 after an MRI revealed inflammation, but no structural damage.

After the six-week shutdown, Syndergaard will need to again build his arm strength up. Zack Scott said on June 11 that he’s still not throwing.

Mets president Sandy Alderson said on June 10 that Sept. 1 is a potential return date for Syndergaard.

Potential return date: Sept. 1

Johneshwy Fargas (shoulder)

An MRI confirmed that Fargas suffered a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder while crashing into the center field fence on May 24. He was placed on the IL on May 26.

Potential return date: TBD

Tommy Hunter (back)

Hunter was placed on the IL on May 21 due to lower back pain.

Zack Scott said on June 11 that Hunter’s back is still bothering him, and the team is trying to pinpoint exactly what’s going on.

Potential return date: TBD

Jordan Yamamoto (shoulder)

The Mets originally placed Yamamoto on the 10-day IL before transferring him to the 60-day lL on May 25 to make room on the 40-man roster for Billy McKinney.

Potential return date: Late July
