Dominic Smith is not in the Mets’ starting lineup on Wednesday night due to a bruise in his right knee that he suffered during Tuesday night’s game.
Speaking before Wednesday’s game, manager Luis Rojas said Smith’s injury occurred when he slid into home plate during Tomas Nido’s home run (that wasn’t called a home run until minutes after the fact).
Rojas added that Smith would likely be available off the bench on Wednesday.
“Right now he’s got a contusion there, so he won’t get the start,” Rojas said. “But he should be available to come in the game at some point.”
Asked if he was worried the injury could linger, Rojas said no.
“He should be good to come in if we need him for an at-bat and also looking ahead, to see if we can have him starting the game tomorrow. No, not concerned with this being a long-term thing.”
