Eric Chavez with Athletics on field after playing career

The Mets have announced their coaching staff under manager Buck Showalter for the 2022 season.

Glenn Sherlock will be the bench coach, Eric Chavez is the hitting coach, Jeremy Hefner is back as pitching coach, Joey Cora will be the third base coach, and Wayne Kirby the first base coach. The bullpen coach will be Craig Bjornson, while Jeremy Barnes will serve as the assistant hitting coach.

This will be Sherlock’s second stint as a Mets coach. He was the third base coach from 2017 to 2018 and first base coach in 2019.

Chavez has a history with Mets GM Billy Eppler, having played under him while with the Yankees in 2011 and 2012 before working as a special assistant during Eppler’s tenure as GM of the Los Angeles Angels.

Chavez had been announced by the Yankees as one of their new assistant hitting coaches last Dec. 21 before being lured away by the Mets.

Kirby was a coach for the San Diego Padres for the last two seasons. Prior to joining the Padres, he was the first base coach on Showalter’s staff with the Baltimore Orioles from 2011 to 2018.

Cora spent the last five seasons as the third base coach for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
