A massive brawl broke out Thursday during a minor league game between the Boston Red Sox‘s and New York Mets‘ Double-A affiliates.
In the bottom of the third inning, Portland Sea Dogs (Red Sox) first baseman Tyreque Reed was hit on the hand by a pitch from the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets) pitcher Marcel Renteria.
As Reed walked down the first base line, seemingly in pain, the two appeared to turn towards each other and began shouting. Reed then ran towards Renteria and punched him in the head.
As Renteria hit the ground, both dugouts cleared causing a large scene in front of the mound. Renteria was seen lying on the ground in pain at the end of the fight, being attended to by staff.
Reed and Binghamton third baseman Brett Baty were ejected from the game.
When the fight occurred, Binghamton was up 3-1 but eventually lost to Portland 12-5.
