Former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones wasn’t expected to be as successful as he was in his one season as the Crimson Tide starter. The Heisman-finalist quarterback broke records, led the program to national championship No. 18 and became a first-round selection.
The New England Patriots drafted Jones at No. 15, even though he was originally projected to be a top-five pick.
The 2021 season was originally believed to be an opportunity for Jones to be the backup behind the starter, former NFL MVP Cam Newton, and become the team’s starter in 2022. However, there’s now speculation he could work his way up to the lead signal-caller role during his rookie season.
One reason analysts believe this to be true is his performance in the Patriots’ training camp. Today, he earned high praise from media members and teammates.
New England cornerback, J.C. Jackson commended the rookie quarterback for his high level of play and accountability.
Jones reportedly had a very impressive showing toward the end of practice, when the team ran two-minute drills.
