Sep. 9—MIDWAY — Oak Grove announced Wednesday that its home football game against Central Cabarrus scheduled for Friday night is canceled.

It was the second Sept. 10 cancellation for the Grizzlies, who were originally scheduled to play Lexington. Oak Grove’s next game is scheduled Sept. 17 at West Stanly.

That leaves 11 local games on this week’s slate — including eight at home.

Southwest Guilford will host R.J. Reynolds tonight at 7. On Friday night, home games will include: High Point Christian vs. Asheville Christian at 7; Bishop McGuinness vs. North Raleigh Christian at 7; East Davidson at Ledford; Glenn vs. Terry Sanford at 7; Southern Guilford vs. Southeast Guilford; Thomasville vs. Forbush; and Trinity vs. Jordan-Matthews.

On the road Friday will be: TW Andrews vs. Parkland; Ragsdale vs. Eastern Guilford; and Wheatmore vs. Chatham Central.

All games are scheduled to start at 7:30 unless otherwise noted.

BOYS SOCCER SW GUILFORD, GLENN

HIGH POINT — Southwest Guilford scored four second-half goals to roll past Glenn 5-1 in nonconference boys soccer Tuesday at Southwest.

Keaton Lane scored three goals to lead the Cowboys (6-0-1), who led 1-0 at halftime. Kendall Ingram added a goal and an assist, while Ryan Salerno had one goal. Joe Specht and Trace Rogers each had an assist.

Tyler Asbury and David Merced split time in goal.

HP CHRISTIAN, W. GUILFORD

GREENSBORO — In a meeting of the Becks, Western Guilford prevailed 3-2 against High Point Christian in nonconference boys soccer Tuesday at Western.

The Cougars — coached by son Austin — dipped to 3-6, while the Hornets — coached by dad Jim — improved to 3-3.

WESLEYAN CHRISTIAN, CONCORD ACADEMY

HIGH POINT — Wesleyan Christian topped Concord Academy 5-2 in boys soccer Tuesday at Sanford Field.

Zack Andersen had three goals and one assist to lead the Trojans (8-2-1), who led 2-0 at halftime. Macoy Strawn added a goal and an assist, while Carter Glover had a goal. Trevor Howard dished three assists.

Duncan Bell and Zach Davis split time in goal.

NC LEADERSHIP, S. STOKES

WALNUT COVE — NC Leadership Academy edged South Stokes 3-2 in a nonconference match Tuesday at South Stokes.

Anakin Leister, Cade Shoemaker and David Truhe scored a goal each for the winners, and Troy Shoemaker was credited with an assist.

GRIMSLEY, BISHOP

KERNERSVILLE — Grimsley scored five goals in the first half and defeated Bishop McGuinness 8-0 on Tuesday at Bishop.

The Villains dropped to 1-4 overall.

LEXINGTON, OAK GROVE

MIDWAY — Both teams scored in the second half as Oak Grove and visiting Lexington battled to a 1-1 in nonconference play on Tuesday.

The Grizzlies moved to 1-2-1.

LEDFORD, THOMASVILLE

WALLBURG — Ledford scored five first-half goals in beating Thomasville 7-0 in nonconference boys soccer Tuesday at Ledford.

The Panthers improved to 3-1-1 overall, while the Bulldogs dropped to 0-4.

GIRLS GOLF AT MEADOWLANDS GC

WALLBURG — High Point Christian won its first girls golf match, beating Wesleyan Christian 155-160 on Tuesday at Meadowlands Golf Club.

Ashley Limbacher shot a 5-over 41 to earn medalist and lead the Cougars. Allie Ware followed with a 55, and Juliana Curione had a 59.

Molly Jardina had a 46 to lead the Trojans, while Mackenzie Gilliatt had a 52 and Emma Gilchrist had a 62.

AT LEXINGTON GC

LEXINGTON — Posting a 130 total, Oak Grove won the opening Mid-Piedmont 3A match of the season at Lexington Golf Club.

Asheboro finished second at 153, followed by Ledford (173), host Central Davidson (178) and North Davidson (191).

AT CORBIN HILLS GC

SALISBURY — Salisbury won a five-team match in Central Carolina 1A/2A Conference girls golf Tuesday at Corbin Hills Golf Course.

Salisbury posted a team score of 161, followed by West Davidson (170), North Rowan (198) and Lexington (206). Salisbury’s Sydney Hlavcek and West Davidson’s Morgan Cooley tied for medalist with a 49.

East Davidson’s Lily Grief shot a 57 while Daniela Robles had a 61.

AT JAMESTOWN PARK

JAMESTOWN — Ragsdale was sixth and Southwest Guilford was seventh during Tuesday’s Metro 4A Conference girls golf match at Jamestown Park.

Northwest Guilford won with a 111 team total, ahead of second-place Northern Guilford with a 138. Ragsdale totaled a 178, while Southwest had a 185. Northwest’s Leah Edwards was medalist.

Riley Brundage (55), Meghan Gregory (60) and Dana Petrovic (63) had scores for Ragsdale. Rachel Wagner and Elena Perko (each with 61) plus Addison Yochim and Miriam Cash (each with 63) had scores for Southwest.

GIRLS TENNIS SW GUILFORD, GRIMSLEY

HIGH POINT — Grimsley edged Southwest Guilford 5-4 in Metro 4A action Thursday at Southwest.

Audrey Serb and Grace Parsons won singles matches for the Cowgirls (4-3, 3-2), which got doubles wins from Parsons/Tran Nguyen and Serb/Anna McGinnis.

HP CENTRAL, SMITH

HIGH POINT — High Point Central swept Smith 9-0 in Mid-State 3A Conference girls tennis Tuesday at Central.

Olivia Perez, Mallory Cook, Caroline Boger, Miarr Hla and Natalie Chrisman won in singles for the Bison (2-3 overall, 2-0 conference). Rachel Eskew/Boger and Gracie Howard/Jilliann Turner won in doubles.

BISHOP McGUINNESS, HP CHRISTIAN

HIGH POINT — Bishop McGuinness topped High Point Christian 8-1 in nonconference girls tennis Tuesday at Oak Hollow Tennis Center.

Lourdes Lopez, Lindsey Bergelin, Izzy Ross, Nina Holton and Adelaide Jernigan won in singles for the Villains. Lopez/Bergelin, Ross/Holton and Jernigan/Sarah Pulliam won in doubles.

E. DAVIDSON, S. DAVIDSON

DENTON — South Davidson edged East Davidson 5-4 in a Central Carolina 1A/2A match at South on Tuesday.

GLENN, MOUNT TABOR

WINSTON-SALEM — Glenn lost 9-0 against Mount Tabor in Central Piedmont 4A Conference girls tennis Tuesday at Mount Tabor.

The Ladycats dropped to 0-3 both overall and in the conference.

LEDFORD, C. DAVIDSON

LEXINGTON — Ledford topped Central Davidson 6-3 in Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference girls tennis Tuesday at Central Davidson.

Kayleigh Batchek, Brea White and Addison Sage won in singles for the Panthers (3-0-1). Mila Riggsbee/Abby Dunbar, Batcheck/White and Karli Shoaf/Sage won in doubles.

RAGSDALE, NW GUILFORD

GREENSBORO — Ragsdale fell 6-3 against Northwest Guilford in Metro 4A Conference girls tennis Tuesday at Northwest.

Ruby Kemp and Ella Perez won in singles for the Tigers (3-4 overall, 1-3 Metro). The duo teamed to win in doubles.

VOLLEYBALL HP CHRISTIAN, BURLINGTON SCHOOL

HIGH POINT — High Point Christian swept the visiting Burlington School 25-15, 25-12, 25-20 on Tuesday.

Leaders for HPCA (9-5) were Zoie Hembree (13 kills), Sophie Braetzkus (26 assists), Cameron Morris and Kennedy Powell (eight kills each).

HPCA prevailed in the JV match 25-5, 25-5. MJ Henning had five kills, Kinslee Britton had 11 aces and five digs, and Lila Allred had seven assists for the Cougars (5-0).

TW ANDREWS, MOREHEAD

HIGH POINT — TW Andrews lost 25-10, 25-12, 25-15 against Morehead in Mid-State 2A Conference volleyball Tuesday at Andrews.

The Red Raiders dropped to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

HP CENTRAL, NE GUILFORD

HIGH POINT — High Point Central defeated Northeast Guilford 25-8, 25-14, 25-17 in Mid-State 3A Conference volleyball Tuesday at Central.

The Bison improved to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

SW GUILFORD, N. GUILFORD

HIGH POINT — Southwest Guilford fell 25-17, 30-28, 25-22 against Northern Guilford in Metro 4A Conference volleyball Tuesday at Southwest.

The Cowgirls dropped to 2-7 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

WESLEYAN CHRISTIAN, CENTRAL CAROLINA PREP

HIGH POINT — Wesleyan Christian held off Central Carolina Prep 25-22, 25-17, 13-25, 25-18 in volleyball Tuesday.

Ava Brown had 19 kills, 15 digs and four aces for the Trojans (4-4). Karli Totel added 11 kills and nine digs, while Morgan Collins had eight kills.

Caroline Lennon had three blocks, Faith Hedrick had 16 digs, and Cate Barnwell had 36 assists.

GLENN, WEST FORSYTH

CLEMMONS — West Forsyth swept Glenn 25-13, 25-7, 25-19 in Central Piedmont 4A Conference volleyball Tuesday at West.

Riley Blake had eight kills, three aces and one block to lead the Ladycats (3-2 overall, 0-2 CPC).

Brayden Giffin had 11 digs and 14 assists, while Lilly Rothrock and Erika Clinard each had six digs.

S. GUILFORD, ATKINS

GREENSBORO — Atkins topped Southern Guilford 3-0 in Mid-State 3A Conference volleyball Tuesday at Southern.

The Storm dropped to 1-6 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

TRINITY, UWHARRIE CHARTER

TRINITY — Trinity fell 25-15, 25-11, 25-16 against Uwharrie Charter in Piedmont Athletic 1A/2A Conference volleyball Tuesday at Trinity.

Gracie Ballard had seven kills and 12 digs to lead the Bulldogs (4-4 overall, 1-2 PAC).

Kaitlyn McCoy added four kills and one block, while Sarabeth Johnson had eight digs. Ella Johnson chipped in seven digs, and Madison Burgiss had 14 assists.

CROSS-COUNTRY AT HAGAN STONE PARK

PLEASANT GARDEN — High Point Christian posted five top-25 finishes during Tuesday’s Greensboro Gladiators meet at Hagan Stone Park.

In the boys race, Cole Johnson took eighth in 18:33.55, followed by Anthony Ruiz (12th, 19:23.31), Judah Weesner (13th, 19:30.06) and Carter Guthrie (20:28.76).

In the girls race, Morgan Hartman was eighth in 24:36.88.

Cary Home Educators won the boys race with 21 points, ahead of second-place New Life Storm (66 points), and the girls race with 44 points, beating second-place Forsyth Home Educators (58 points).

AT EAST DAVIDSON

THOMASVILLE — East Davidson’s boys and girls swept their meets against Salisbury, North Rowan and Lexington on Tuesday at East.

The Golden Eagles won the boys team total with 27 points, beating Salisbury with 32, and the girls team total with 18 points, ahead Salisbury’s 43.

Salisbury’s Jake Denhard won the boys race in 18:32.67, while schoolmate Sutton Webb won the girls race in 22:44.00.

In the top 10 for East were: Luke Burleson (second, 19:40), Matt McLean (fourth, 21:14.64), Caleb Machorro (seventh, 22:41.00), Jackson Cook (eighth, 22:47.00) and Kalem Griffin (ninth, 23:33.00) for the boys; Avery Tysinger (second, 24:51.00), Gracie Prevette (third, 25:23.00), Fatima Cepeda (fifth, 26:29.00), Gabby Trimnal (seventh, 27:33.00), Kaitlin Gore (eighth, 28:21.00) and Lauren Tippett (ninth, 30:49.00).

HIGH POINT — Bernard Boateng scored the only goal for High Point Christian in a 5-1 loss to visiting Caldwell on Tuesday.

Eli Carlson snared 12 saves for the Cougars, who dropped to 3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in conference.
