Jun. 26—WALLBURG — Chris Adams is stepping down from his roles as baseball and football coach at Ledford to become assistant principal at East Davidson, he announced Thursday.

He has spent 24 years in education and 20 years in coaching at Ledford — highlighted by runs to the baseball state championship series in the spring of 2018 and the football regional final in the fall of that same year.

Adams has coached both sports for the last eight years.

“My time at Ledford has been like a dream come true,” he said in an email. “I have been surrounded by a wonderful community, a supportive administration, hard-working and loyal assistant coaches, and some of the finest young men that a head coach could ever encounter.

“I am so proud of all of my current and former players and all that we have accomplished together. I look forward to watching both the football and baseball programs at Ledford continue to compete at a high level. … I am looking forward to the new challenges and many rewards that this position will offer.”

Adams, who graduated from High Point Central and coached the Bison baseball team in the mid-1990s, went 275-106 during two stints as the Panthers’ head coach. He reached the regional finals in 2003, 2008 and 2016 before breaking through in 2018, when the team won a school-record 29 games.

He won eight conference titles and seven tournament titles and reached the playoffs 12 times.

In football, Adams went 78-53 in 11 seasons — which is the longest tenure in school history. Ledford reached the playoffs in all but one season, steadily improving until winning the Central Carolina 2A championship in 2018. It won a school-record 13 games that year and made its deepest playoff run.

MARTINSVILLE — The HiToms split a doubleheader against Martinsville on Thursday in Coastal Plain League baseball at Hooker Field — winning 4-2 before falling 4-0 in a pair of seven-inning games.

In game 1, Luke Spiva had a double and two RBIs to lead High Point-Thomasville (11-7), which trailed 2-0 through five innings before rallying with one in the sixth and three in the seventh.

Von Seibert, who tripled, and Ellis Stokes each added a hit and an RBI.

Chace Harris picked up the win in one spotless inning in relief, while Tristan Snyder picked up the save with a scoreless seventh — striking out three.

In game 2, the Mustangs (8-12) scored single runs in the second, third and fourth before tacking one on in the sixth.

Alex Stone had two hits for the HiToms, while Noah Ledford, Hogan Windish and Chet Sikes each had one.

Tyrese Hearst took the loss, allowing one run in two innings while striking out two, before handing off to Luke Davis for four innings.

High Point-Thomasville, following a home game Friday against Martinsville, plays at Forest City tonight to close the first half. It will then host Asheboro on Sunday — the first of four meetings against the Copperheads next week.
