Jul. 16—BIRD ISLAND — Tate Sheehan smacked a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to help the BOLD Mudhens defeat the Sacred Heart/MACCRAY Scarlets 4-3 Thursday in the American Legion baseball playoffs.
Top-seeded BOLD struck for four runs in the bottom of the seventh. The Mudhens advance in the winners’ bracket of the South Pod of the Central Sub State.
Second-seeded Sacred Heart/MACCRAY moves into the losers’ bracket of the double-elimination South Pod. The Scarlets play an elimination game Friday. They will host Redwood Falls, a 9-5 winner over Hector. BOLD goes into the South Pod championship bracket Saturday.
Sheehan, batting seventh, finished 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Avery Herdina was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run for the Mudhens.
Aidan Elfering got the complete-game win. He allowed seven hits and three earned runs, walking one and striking out five in seven innings.
For Sacred Heart/MACCRAY, Isaac Strommer went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Brandan Hoberg was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Konnor Rohloff threw a complete-game three-hitter to lead New London-Spicer past Prinsburg in the playoffs at Spicer.
Rohloff struck out five and did not walk anyone.
Aeden Andresen drew three walks for NLS. Riley Lessman, Luke Ruter, Cole Dolezal and Bennett Schultz all had base hits.
Schultz’s RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh provided the walk-off win. NLS remains alive in the Tier II Division VII playoffs with the victory. It’ll play at 5 p.m. Friday at Paynesville.
