Packers backup quarterback Kurt Benkert may have just made an unceremonious NFL debut, but he’s already in the social media Hall of Fame.
Benkert, who suited up for Green Bay’s 45-30 win over the Chicago Bears with regular No. 2 quarterback Jordan Love on the reserve/COVID-19 list, checked into his first NFL game for the final two snaps, kneeling both times. Officially, he had two rushes for negative-1 yard.
But he was celebrating with a victory tweet, one that proclaimed “W” and expressed it through the field chalk on his knee.
The veteran Benkert hadn’t been able to suit up for a regular-season game before now, but he’s become an endearing fan favorite all the same, thanks in part to his active social-media presence. Benkert has been taking first-team reps in practice with Love sidelined and Aaron Rodgers missing practices because of a toe injury.
And hey, it might not be glamorous, but it beats getting tripped up by your center on consecutive preseason snaps.
