Kevin Durant’s path to Brooklyn from his days with the Oklahoma City Thunder and his title-winning tenure in Golden State has always been a point of contention among fans when judging his legacy . On Draymond Green’s show “Chips” with Bleacher Report, Durant addressed his decision to go to Golden State – and why he felt the Warriors’ super team wasn’t kept together.
Particularly, Green put Durant on the spot when talking about his decision to leave OKC and even the Warriors. When reflecting on the year he left the Thunder the 32-year-old said,
“It was a basketball decision — It was mainly … I felt like I was the absolute perfect fit with what you guys were doing on both ends of the ball. And I knew my game had reached a point where I needed to really see what that looked like. I thought that was just a no-brainer. I would do that (expletive) a million times. Again, I didn’t second guess at all.”
When touching on Durant’s decision to leave Golden State, Green brought up a heated exchange the two had in a game versus the Los Angeles Clippers. The former MVP then finally cleared the air:
“It wasn’t the argument, it was the way that everybody … Steve Kerr acted like it didn’t happen. Bob Myers tried to just discipline you and think that would put the mask over everything. I really felt like that was such a big situation for us as a group the first time we went through something like that, we had to get all that (expletive) out — We tried to dance around it. I just didn’t like all of that. Just the vibe between all of that, it just made (expletive) weird to me. I rather us be who we say we are. Family first and communication is key.”
