Former Philadelphia 76ers guard JJ Redick called it a career in September when he officially announced his retirement from the NBA after 15 successful seasons. He transformed into one of the best shooters in the history of the game and he made a big impact wherever he went.
In two seasons with the Sixers, Redick shot 40.7% from deep as he made life much easier for Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons to operate. He also averaged 17.6 points across those two seasons and he knocked down 433 triples which is good for sixth place all-time in Sixers history. He was a big reason for Philadelphia being able to have so much success.
In a recent installment of his podcast, “The Old Man and the Three”, Redick was asked by Sacramento Kings guard Tyrese Haliburton what his biggest regret was in his career. After pausing for a moment, Redick sighed and he said:
You can’t change an outcome because an outcome is out of your control. So, you can change a decision. Man, I wish there was a way I could have gone back to Philly.

During the NBA’s 2020 suspension, Redick did end up explaining why he left the Sixers for the New Orleans Pelicans in free agency in 2019. The reasoning was centered on the fact that the Sixers wanted to go bigger in order to go after the Toronto Raptors and the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference.
The decision obviously backfired a bit as the Sixers were swept out of the 2020 playoffs by the Boston Celtics in the bubble. They made up for the mistake by bringing in Seth Curry and Danny Green in the 2020 offseason, but bringing back Redick would have been a big help in the previous season.
