Assistant Jerome Allen confirms C’s exit, thanks Boston on IG originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
Jerome Allen’s six-year tenure with the Boston Celtics officially is over.
The Celtics assistant coach confirmed he’s leaving the team Tuesday night in an Instagram post, writing that he was “grateful for the opportunity” in Boston.
A Philadelphia area native, Allen came to the Celtics in 2015 after six seasons as the head coach at Penn. He’s set to join the Detroit Pistons‘ staff as an assistant coach under head coach Dwane Casey, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

“I’m forever grateful for the opportunity the Celtics organization afforded me and my family,” Allen wrote. “The wins and loses come and go…..but the people you never forget. Boston, thank you for everything!”
Allen was one of Boston’s longer-tenured assistants and was with the team for all but two seasons of the Brad Stevens era. Isaiah Thomas, Tacko Fall and Evan Turner were among current and former C’s players who reacted to Allen’s post on Instagram, with Turner commenting, “I’m forever grateful, ol’ head.”
It appears several coaching changes are in store for the Celtics under new head coach Ime Udoka: The team reportedly is looking to add Pacific head coach Damon Stoudamire and San Antonio Spurs assistant Will Hardy to its staff, while Jay Larranaga and Scott Morrison are expected to join Allen in taking jobs elsewhere.
