A couple of days after an embarrassing loss at home to Stanford, USC announced it had relieved head coach Clay Helton of his coaching duties with the Trojans, effective immediately. It did not take very long for Penn State head coach James Franklin to be mentioned as a possible leading candidate for the vacancy.

USC made the coaching change news official with a statement released by athletics director Mike Bohn, which was shared quickly via Twitter. With Helton removed as head coach, Bohn committed to the pursuit to finding the best possible candidate for the job to lead the Trojans back to the top of the Pac-12 and, perhaps, back into the national championship picture.

Franklin, who should absolutely be no stranger to seeing his name attached to various USC coaching rumors by now, was quickly a popular choice to include in a list of names to be thought of as likely targets for the USC job by national media.

So brace yourselves Penn state fans. These James Frnaklin comments are not about to go away any time too soon. Until USC makes a coaching change official, we could be in for a bit of turbulance.

James Franklin is scheduled to speak to the media during his weekly press conference on Tuesday, stay tuned to what he has to say about these reports.
