Boston Celtics fans will get to meet their new head coach Monday.

The Celtics officially announced Ime Udoka as the 18th head coach in franchise history Monday morning. He’ll take over for Brad Stevens, who is now president of basketball operations after eight seasons as head coach.

“Among the many outstanding qualities that Ime brings to the table are his character, humility, and competitiveness,” Stevens said in a statement Monday. “He has a relentless work ethic and a vast array of experiences as a player and coach. He’s a leader that is warm and demanding, and we are so excited that he has chosen to join us in pursuit of Banner 18.”

Forsberg: Udoka checked all the boxes for the Celtics

Udoka played seven seasons in the NBA and began his coaching career with the Spurs in 2012. He spent seven years as an assistant coach in San Antonio and won a championship with the Spurs in 2014 before taking an assistant coach job with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2019. He joined the Brooklyn Nets’ staff as an assistant for the 2020-21 season.

The Celtics will introduce Udoka in a press conference Monday at approximately 10:15 a.m. ET. NBC Sports Boston will have live coverage beginning at 10 a.m.
