The New Orleans Saints played their second of three preseason contests Monday night as they beat the Jaguars 23-21. The story for interested Notre Dame fans however came from the ESPN broadcast as it was reported the Saints have taken calls about the availability of Ian Book via trade.

What a stunner this would be as Book was selected in the fourth round of April’s NFL draft by the Saints.

The Saints listed former Northwestern quarterback Trevor Siemian as their third string quarterback Monday as he got in to attempt eight passes while Book spent the evening on the sideline.

Jameis Winston appears to be the Saints starter for 2021 while Taysom Hill seems to have the backup job. If Sean Payton and the Saints do like Siemian more than Book then the idea of shopping him makes sense as Siemian is only due to make roughly $100,000 more than Book this season.

Book has drawn attention early in New Orleans but would they get back a fourth round pick they used to draft him?

For Book’s sake I really hope he stays in New Orleans as there are few places better in the NFL for a young quarterback to be groomed.
