Report: Hunter Henry needs MRI for shoulder injury originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
The New England Patriots might be down one half of their new tight end duo for this week’s preseason opener.
Tight end Hunter Henry is having an MRI after injuring his shoulder at Sunday’s training camp practice, ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported Monday.
While Reiss reports the injury “doesn’t appear to be serious,” he notes it’s a “painful” injury that could force Henry to miss time during the preseason.
Curran’s camp observations: Harry keeps stacking impressive days
Henry joined the Patriots on a three-year, $37.5 million contract in free agency and is expected to revitalize the tight end position in New England alongside fellow newcomer Jonnu Smith.
Henry caught 60 passes for 613 yards and four touchdowns with the Los Angeles Chargers last season, while the Patriots’ entire tight end group combined for just 18 catches and 254 yards in 2020.
The 26-year-old has battled injury before: He missed the entire 2018 season due to a torn ACL and has missed six games over the last two seasons. But while Henry may miss Thursday’s preseason game against the Washington Football Team, it sounds like his shoulder ailment isn’t a long-term issue.
