Quite a bit has changed for both teams since Texas Tech basketball last took on Texas March 11, 2021, in the Big 12 Tournament.

The Red Raiders get their chance to avenge that 67-66 loss to the Longhorns at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1 at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock.

Texas’ quick first-round exit from the 2021 NCAA Tournament saw then-Texas head coach Shaka Smart bolt Austin for the same job at Marquette in the Big East.

The Red Raiders made it to the second round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament, losing 67-66 to Arkansas.

Then came the off-season.

Under Mark Adams, Texas Tech basketball has continued its recent string of success through 2022 so far: nationally-ranked, a marquee win against a No. 1-ranked opponent, more wins than losses against a demanding Big 12 schedule.

In their previous game, Texas Tech beat Mississippi State 76-50 in the Big 12/SEC Challenge Jan. 29.

Texas Tech’s senior guard Adonis Arms proved vital in the team’s success Saturday. Before the first half finished, Arms had already scored 7 points to push the Red Raiders to an early 8-4 lead. By halftime, Texas Tech topped Mississippi 37-22 and the Bulldogs just couldn’t catch up to.

The win maintained the Red Raiders’ undefeated-at-home record, a streak they hope to keep through the highly-anticipated matchup against the Texas Longhorns at home on Feb 1.

Texas beat Tennessee 52-51 in a previous game on Jan. 29.
