Sep. 3—Lakeville South 50, Park 14: Lakeville South finished the 2020 season undefeated in Class 6A — finishing the year as the top-ranked team by the Associated Press — and started the 2021 campaign in a similar fashion.
The Cougars ran 40 times for 447 yards. Carson Hansen led the way with 213 yards and three scores. Evan Bearth threw for 202 yards and a touchdown for Park, who is back playing in Class 6A after playing in Class 5A in recent years.
Farmington 35, Burnsville 12: Connor Weed threw for a score and rushed for two more for Farmington. Weed ran for 110 yards on the ground, while Rod Finley added a pair of rushing scores.
Jay Homuth had a pair of receiving scores for the Blaze.
Spring Lake Park 34, Cretin-Derham Hall 24: Nick Ojile ran in a couple short touchdowns for the Panthers, who built a 27-0 advantage in the second quarter Thursday night.
The Raiders rallied to trim the deficit to 27-24 thanks to three rushing touchdowns from Will Haider, but a 55-yard run from Nate Litke in the fourth quarter put the Panthers back up 10.
Tartan 29, Two Rivers 22: Tartan overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to rally for victory.
Martiese White finished with 106 rushing yards and a score for the Titans.
Holy Angels 27, Hill-Murray 21: Two expected Class 4A powers this season went back and forth in an entertaining season opener.
The two teams traded six touchdowns in the first half — including two passing touchdowns from Hill-Murray quarterback Joe Mcgurran. Hill-Murray led 21-20 at the break. But the lone second half score belonged to Holy Angels’ star running back Emmett Johnson, who finished with four touchdowns.
Lakeville North 21, Eastview 0: Lakeville North’s defense was the star of the night Thursday, shutting out the Lightning.
The offense was a two-headed rushing attack. Jackson Hanson ran for 146 yards and two touchdowns, while Gavyn Schraufnagel had 219 yards and a score.
