Sep. 18—The Pirates (2-3) took a 8-7 lead late in the first quarter on the road Friday against Pineville.

That advantage — and momentum, however, didn’t hold up long.

The Mountain Lions (4-1) stormed back to score 42-straight points and claim a 49-15 win over the Pirates.

Berea snapped a seven-game road losing streak last week with a win at Caverna, but some special teams mistakes proved costly on Friday.

“Habits are hard to break and it’s even harder to create new ones,” Berea Community coach Frank Parks Jr., said. “We all understand it’s a process and the process comes with ups and downs. The key for us is to continue to learn and grow from the good and the bad.”

Jaiden Cunningham scored on a 3-yard run and added the two-point conversion as the Pirates took the lead.

Pineville scored early in the second quarter, then scored on a punt return. The Mountain Lions added another score and went into halftime up 29-8.

Pineville blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Cunningham added a 3-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. Peyton Jones added the extra point.

Berea is set to return to action Friday at home against Jackson County.
