Apr. 28—WILLMAR — The Willmar boys tennis team shook up the lineup a bit. Head coach Forrest Rice believes it has helped the Cardinals be more competitive.

Willmar lost to Fergus Falls 6-0 on Tuesday in a Central Lakes Conference match at Willmar Senior High School.

“I’d say they (the Cardinals) are starting to get a little more relaxed,” Rice said. “It’s still not the points I’d like to see, but they’re starting to not get all zeros.

The third singles match between Willmar’s Jordy Contreras and Fergus Falls’ Matt Niblock was suspended because of rain. It’ll be completed when the teams meet May 13 in Fergus Falls. Niblock won the first match.

Willmar also moved Andrew Ziebarth to No. 1 doubles to be paired with David Thaden. Rice said the pairing seems to work well.

That enabled 10th-grader Mateo Engan to move into the singles lineup.

The Cardinals next play Thursday at St. Cloud Apollo.
