May 23—STONINGTON — Ryan Whaley and Matt Valakos accounted for nine points apiece as East Lyme High School completed a perfect regular season with a 20-12 boys’ lacrosse victory over Stonington on Saturday.

Whaley finished with six goals and three assists while Valakos had two goals and seven assists for the Vikings (12-0), who will be the top seed in next week’s Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I tournament.

Wes Williamson added four goals and two assists for East Lyme while Anthony Gesino and Garisen Wiese had two goals apiece, Cooper Pazzaglia had a goal and two assists, Miles Hinkley, Zach Boguszewski and Sean McCusker each scored once and goalies Mason Gallo and Spencer Sherman made four saves apiece.

Sophomore Cam Elenteny led the Bears with six goals and two assists, fellow sophomore Ben Massengale added three goals and goalie Will Banfield stopped 19 shots.

In other games:

— Jake Chapman and Kellen Paparella had six points apiece to highlight Bacon Academy’s 12-9 victory over Fitch. Chapman finished with three goals and three assists while Paparella had two goals and four assists for the Bobcats (13-1). Jack Holmes and Gavin Emmons added two goals apiece for Bacon and Tyler Graham had a goal and two assists. Evan Salen scored four goals for Fitch (8-4) while Josh Letellier had two goals and three assists, James Deichler had a goal and two assists, Tate Gordon two goals and Ty Peters a goal and an assist.

— Nate Houggy scored three goals as Waterford beat Ledyard/Griswold 10-2 on Friday night. John Zimmerman and Jackson Huta scored two goals each, Anthony Stone, Oliver Searle and Joe Wyatt had a goal each, Jake Kozlowski made 10 saves and Mike Hajj, Trevor Stringer and Tommy Quiles had assists for the Lancers (6-8). Cam Reynolds had a goal and an assist and Ian Herbert scored for Ledyard/Griswold (3-10).

Girls’ lacrosse

— Emily Gates scored four goals and Ilyanna Rivera made 12 saves in Waterford’s 12-8 win over Bacon Academy. Marin Mahoney added two goals and one assist for the Lancers (7-7) while Julia Knowles scored twice and Carly Holdridge and Ella Bousquet each had one goal and one assist. Skylar Gustavsen had three goals and an assist for Bacon (11-4) while Joely Stella and Megan Swanke each scored twice.

— Caroline Crolius had six goals and an assist to highlight Old Lyme’s 12-3 win over Haddam-Killingworth in the Shoreline Conference. Emily Mesham added two goals and an assist for the Wildcats (8-8, 6-6) while Schuyler Greenho scored twice and Sadie Bowman had a goal and two assists.

Crew

— East Lyme raced on its home course at Pattagansett Lake for the first time since 2019, with the girls going 3-1 against Simsbury and the boys splitting two races. In the girls’ races, the varsity one boat won by five seconds, the varsity two boat won by nine and the varsity three boat beat Simsbury in that same race. In the boys’ race, East Lyme’s varsity one lost by just 1.19 seconds and its novice boat won by five seconds.

Members of the East Lyme girls’ varsity one were coxswain Mikayla Stahl, stroke and captain Jennie Sherwood, Noelle Avena, Nikki Hahn, Darby Farragher, Simone Cappon, captain Erin Prouty, Jillian Sylvester and captain Erin Munch. Members of the boys’ varsity one team were coxswain Will Phimister, stroke Mike Leone, captain Andrius Kirvelevicius, Jon Northcutt, captain Oliver McCoy, Nolan Deschenes, captain Darius Kirvelevicius, Tommy McGrath and Evan Lombardo.
