Gary Payton shows up to Game 2 in awesome shirt of son originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

Gary Payton is ready to watch his son play in the NBA Finals.

The NBA legend arrived at Chase Center in style for Game 2 on Sunday, with an incredible shirt that showed him being guarded by his son, Warriors guard Gary Payton II.

Payton II, affectionately nicknamed “Young Glove” because he mimics his father’s defensive prowess, didn’t play in Game 1 against the Boston Celtics despite being available after returning from an elbow fracture that he suffered in the second round against the Memphis Grizzlies.

The elder Payton wasn’t too thrilled with that, as he told Grant Liffmann on the latest episode of Dubs Talk.

But Payton II saw his first Finals action in Game 2, and his father looked more than prepared to cheer for him trying to lock down the Celtics.

Payton’s shirt features his name in bold yellow font. It shows Payton in a vintage Seattle SuperSonics jersey, with his son guarding him in a Warriors jersey.

Payton, of course, spent the majority of his career with the Sonics, where he made the NBA All-Defensive First Team nine straight times.

Payton II has had a breakthrough year with the Warriors, and figures to factor into the defensive equation in the NBA Finals.

Much like he’s locking down his father in that shirt, Payton II will look to make a name for himself on the NBA’s biggest stage.
