The No. 3 seed Alabama softball team hadn’t lost a game in nearly two months. Then again, none of those 20 straight victories had come against these Florida State Seminoles.

Head coach Lonni Alameda’s team, which came into the NCAA postseason as a bit of a longshot, continued its historic run in elimination games by knocking off the Crimson Tide, 2-0, Sunday to force a rematch Monday at 7 p.m. ET.

The winner of that game will move on to the championship series against either Oklahoma or James Madison. Those two semifinalists will play Monday at 3 p.m. ET.

After four scoreless innings, Florida State took a 1-0 lead when third baseman Sydney Sherrill drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the fifth.

The Seminoles then scored an insurance run one inning later when center fielder Dani Morgan delivered an extra-base hit and then scored on an RBI single by shortstop Josie Muffley.

Star pitcher Kathryn Sandercock came on in relief to pick up her third win of this WCWS; she pitched the final 2 1/3 innings after Caylan Arnold pitched the first 4 2/3. Sandercock is now 27-3 on the season.

FSU improves to 47-11-1 while Alabama falls to 52-8.

Along with winning another game, FSU established a new WCWS record for consecutive wins in elimination games with seven, dating back to 2018.
