Ex-WFT RB Guice dismissed of domestic violence charges originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
Former Washington Football Team running back Derrius Guice has been dismissed of domestic violence charges by a Virginia judge following a hearing on Wednesday, according to Justin Jouvenal of the Washington Post.
The 24-year-old was arrested and charged with five counts of domestic violence last August — one count of strangualation and four misdemeanors for allegedly choking the same woman. He was subsequently released by Washington and has not signed with an NFL team since.
As a result of Wednesday’s hearing, Guice will no longer face trial or have a criminal record. The running back could have faced prison time had he been convicted, per the Post. The trial was expected to begin later in June.
Following the news, the woman and Guice’s attorney released the following joint statement obtained by the Post:
“They have both worked hard toward a resolution of their relationship and appreciate the input and consideration of the Commonwealth.”
Originally a second-round pick by Washington in 2018, Guice missed his entire rookie season after suffering a torn ACL during the preseason. In his second year with the club, Guice played in just five games, finishing with 324 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns.
