Doug Jones, baseball, 1957-2021

Former major league All-Star closer Doug Jones passed away at the age of 64, the Cleveland Guardians announced on social media on Monday.

Jones pitched for Cleveland across seven seasons between 1986-1991 and then again in 1998. All told, Jones saved 129 games for Cleveland, the third most in franchise history behind only Cody Allen (149) and Bob Wickman (139).

Jones was a five-time All-Star, with three of those seasons coming with Cleveland in 1988, 1989 and 1990. He also played for the Milwaukee Brewers, Oakland Athletics, Houston Astros, Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles. He finished his career with 303 saves and a 3.30 ERA across 16 big league seasons.
