May 23—Sunday’s game

Akron 13

Reading 1

Game recap: Trenton Brooks’ three-run homer in the first inning set the tone as the RubberDucks again trounced the Fightin Phils, wrapping up the six-game Double-A Northeast League series with their fifth win.

The RubberDucks (12-5) outscored the Fightins (3-15) 24-1 over the final two games of the series and 39-15 for the entire series.

The game completed a 1-11 road trip that started with a six-game sweep at Bowie.

Only Binghamton (2-15) has a worse record than the Fightins among Double-A teams.

Reading’s only run came on a sixth-inning homer by shortstop Arquimedes Gamboa, his third.

The Fightins trailed just 3-1 before the Ducks got a run-scoring double from Marcos Gonzalez in the sixth, followed by Tyler Freeman’s two-run double that pushed the lead to 7-1.

Juan Hillman, a former second-round pick of the Cleveland Indians, went seven innings and combined with Jake Miednik on a four-hitter.

James McArthur started and went 3.2 innings for Reading, allowing six hits and three runs.

Akron scored four times in the sixth, three times in the seventh and three times in the eighth.

Phillers: The Fightins’ ERA is a league-worst 7.50… Opposing teams are batting .281 vs. Reading pitching… Colton Eastman is the scheduled starter for Reading’s series opener Tuesday vs. Richmond.

On deck: The Fightins are off Monday before beginning a six-game homestand Tuesday vs. Richmond at 7:05.
