Team previews

Spain (+800 to win Euro 2020)

This is a Spain team that doesn’t feature a single Real Madrid player thanks to Sergio Ramos’ injury troubles this past season. The lack of Real players also reflects the change that the Spanish national team has undergone since it won the Euros in 2012 and was knocked out in the Round of 16 in 2016. Sergio Busquets was set to be one of the familiar faces left from those teams but Spain announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and players who had been close contacts were in isolation. As a precaution, the team’s friendly with Lithuania this week will be played with members of the Under-21 team.

Best bet

Spain scores fewer than 5.5 goals in the group stage (+140)

Sweden (+10000)

Sweden scored 23 goals in its 10 qualifying games. Emil Forsberg leads the attack and the midfield also features Seb Larsson and Dejan Kulusevski. Mainz’s Robin Quaison was the team’s top scorer in qualifying with five goals and Manchester United’s Victor Lindelof leads the defense. The Swedes aren’t spectacular, but they should be solid enough to make it to the final 16.

Best bet

Spain to finish 1st and Sweden to finish 2nd in the group stage (+240)

Poland (+8000)

Robert Lewandowski is perhaps the best striker in the world. Can the rest of Poland’s team rise to his level to make a run in the tournament? Poland is sold in goal with Lukasz Fabianski and Wojciech Szczesny, but the weakness of the team is in the middle. If the middle of the field gives Lewandowski any semblance of the service he typically gets at Bayern Munich, then Poland could — could — sneak into the quarterfinals.

Best bet

Poland to get 3 points in the group stage (+450)

Slovakia (+20000)

The Slovaks enter the Euros as a heavy underdog in their group. Mark Hamsik leads the midfield and Milan Skriniar will be the team’s defensive force but there are questions up front. Slovakia had to beat Ireland in penalties and Northern Ireland in extra time to make the Euros and haven’t advanced past the Round of 16 in the Euros.

Best bet

Slovakia won’t qualify for the knockout stages (-200)
