This week College GameDay is live in Ames, Iowa, as they get the nation ready for the annual Iowa-Iowa State matchup. However, this morning all eyes are on Baton Rouge as the ESPN crew discussed what is going on down on the Bayou. Let’s just say, they weren’t giving anyone a pass after the first game of the season.
It started with former Heisman Trophy winner, Desmond Howard who started off criticizing the defense. Their lack of physicality is what he noticed with guys diving at ankles and passing up on tackles. “At some point, you have to be accountable for what you do out there on the field,” Howard said.
When you have alpha males in your locker room, they understand how to take control of the team, and when guys miss assignments on the field, they hold them accountable to get in their face and make sure they do their damn job.” – Howard on the Tigers defense
Former Georgia Bulldog David Pollack went right at the offensive line play. “Their offensive line, it’s a mess. I don’t know if they’re going to be able to fix that. Ed O was right. He took responsibility. He should take responsibility. He’s got to get them prepared.”
“The defensive standard when it comes to effort and attitude and want and love for each other and love for the game and want to compete,” Kirk Herbstreit said. “I would say LSU is off the charts compared to almost anybody in the country year after year after year.”
