Apr. 21—The MEGA gymnastics team had eight athletes that contributed to Team South Dakota at the Region 4 meet on April 16-18 in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Qualifiers needed a 34.0 or higher all-around score at their state meet to be eligible to compete for South Dakota at the regional level. They competed against athletes from South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and Nebraska.

MEGA qualified 20 all-around gymnasts and two events specialists for the region meet. Bentley Bates, Emily Moody, Joslin Sommerville, Olivia Prunty, Kyanna Gropper, Aubrey Gelderman, Lainee Forst and Alexys Rueb represented MEGA at the competition.

Bates was MEGA’s first and only Level 9 gymnast this season. In her first time competing at regions, she recorded a 33.35 all-around score, highlighted by a 8.9 floor routine.

Rueb, a Level 7 gymnast, took first place in the vault (9.55), second in the floor (9.35) and all-around (34.025). Forst, a Level 7 performer, earned third on the beam (9.25) and finished with a 34.425 in the all-around.

At Level 8, Moody took second in the vault (9.4), eighth in the floor (9.1) and earned an all-around score of 34.9. Also at Level 8, Prunty took fifth in the vault (9.075) and bars (9.175) and was MEGA’s highest all-around scorer at the meet (35.45).

Gropper also compete at Level 8 and took third in the bars with a personal-best 9.15. She also scored a 9.125 in the floor and scored a 35.10 in the all-around.

Sommerville was also a Level 8 gymnast. She earned a 9.2 in the floor routine and scored a 34.125 in the all-around. Gelderman, a Level 8 floor specialist, earned a personal best (9.225).
