The collapse of a 12-story condo this past week in Surfside has shocked the South Florida community and left many pondering how such a devastating accident could have possibly materialized. As of Friday, there were four tragically killed in the collapse and another 159 unaccounted for according to Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. But as many search for answers and loved ones, the South Florida community is rallying to help.

The Miami Dolphins, often active in the community, are no exception. The team issued a statement of support for those impacted by the collapse in Surfside before springing into action alongside their partner, SEED Miami Food Truck, to help feed first responders and affected families on the scene.

But it wasn’t just the partners of the Miami Dolphins Foundation Food Relief Program that made their presence felt and took matters into their own hands — two of the most prominent members of the team were on site to help provide supplies for those first responders working diligently at Surfside: 2021 first round pick Jaylen Waddle and recently extended linebacker Jerome Baker stopped by the Surfside Community Center with materials.

Making a positive impact in the South Florida community is something we’ve seen routinely from the Dolphins and their players over the years; so it should come as no surprise to see the Dolphins pull together an effort to help. But seeing such a quick rally to those impacted in Surfside by not just the organization but by several of the team’s most high-profile talents is yet another reminder of how the Dolphins impact the area beyond just playing football on Sundays.
