Dina Asher-Smith has pulled out of the women’s 200m due to a hamstring injury.

The Team GB star finished third in her semi-final for the 100m and failed to qualify for the final.

But Asher-Smith opened up on her struggles in the build-up to Tokyo 2020, admitting that she pulled her hamstring at the British Olympic trials and has struggled just to make it to the Olympics.

She told BBC Sport: “I’m so disappointed, it’s Tokyo 2020, it’s everything I’ve trained for over the last few years, the last few weeks have been absolutely insane.

“I’m proud of Daryll, she’s done it, she deserves it. I wanted to be up front with everybody, with my form and life.

“I pulled out of Stockholm and Gateshead because in the trials final, I pulled my hamstring at 60m.

“I tore it pretty bad, I was told it was a rupture and it would refi three months to get back, it’s been a lot to deal with.

“We had this whole statement ready to go, but thankfully we had a second option, it was a slight mis-diagnosis, we turned over every stone to stand on the line.

“Ultimately as a team and thanks to all my friends and family. I’m so grateful for everybody to put in so much work for me to stand on this track.

“The most frustrating thing for me was that I was in the shape of my life. Six months ago I was confident I would win this.”
