When the Dallas Cowboys open the 2021 NFL season as guests of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers they’ll be without their best player as offensive guard Zack Martin will not play after a recent positive COVID test. As a result, Martin didn’t even make the trip to Tampa.

From our friends at Cowboys Wire:

Zack Martin was not on the team plane when it took off for Tampa on Wednesday. Michael Gehlken is reporting that the right guard will miss Thursday night’s season opener. The Cowboys had been willing to rush Martin to the Gulf Coast via private jet if he could manage two negative tests as required, but his recovery from COVID “has not reached that stage.” Reserve offensive lineman Brandon Knight also stayed at home, still on the COVID watchlist.

Martin is one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL as the Notre Dame product has been selected as an All-Pro four times and played in the Pro Bowl six times in his seven professional seasons.
