Flashback to 2016.
Early in the season, Auburn defeated LSU 18-13 in a dramatic, down-to-the-wire affair. The very next day, LSU head coach Les Miles was fired. In stepped Ed Orgeron as the interim coach.
Auburn heads to Baton Rouge on October 2 to take on an LSU squad that is struggling. They’ve gone 5-6 since the national title in 2019 and have not looked good doing so. This sub .500 stretch for LSU included a 48-11 thrashing at the hands of Auburn last season.
Could we see Auburn get another LSU head coach fired?
Orgeron’s seat is warming up, and with matchups against a Jim McElwain-led Central Michigan team (that only lost by 10 to Missouri last week) and Mississippi State (who bet the Tigers in Baton Rouge last season) coming up, LSU could be all out of sorts heading into their game with Auburn.
Zac Blackerby of the “Locked on Auburn Podcast” gave a scorching hot take on his podcast this Tuesday.
“This is my bold prediction. Auburn is going to go down to LSU, win by three scores, and Ed Orgeron will get fired the next day. They pulled the trigger with Les (Miles) against Auburn, so why wouldn’t they do it now?”
We’ll have to see, but after looking around the SEC post-week one, Auburn and Alabama look like the only two teams that are prepared to play this season.
Will LSU be prepared to face Auburn in a few weeks?
