Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor will be looking to set an NFL record when his team hosts the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Taylor has enjoyed an incredible run over his last eight games. In fact, it’s historic. In each of his last eight games, Taylor has recorded at least 100 scrimmage yards and a rushing touchdown. Only two players have done so in NFL history: LaDainian Tomlinson (2006) and Lydell Mitchell (1975-1976).
Neither Tomlinson or Mitchell extended that streak to nine consecutive games. Taylor has a chance to do so against one of the best run defenses in the NFL.
The Buccaneers defense has allowed the fewest rushing attempts (206), rushing yards (784) and rushing first downs (48) in the NFL. They are also third-best in yards per carry allowed (3.8) and tied for allowing the third-fewest rushing touchdowns (6).
So in other words, this will be a massive challenge for Taylor and the Colts offensive line.
That said, Taylor is on a hot streak. He gashed the Buffalo Bills run defense for 185 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. His 147 yards after contact were more than any running back had total in Week 11.
Taylor currently leads the NFL in rushing yards (1,122), scrimmage yards (1,444), rushing touchdowns (13) and carries of 20 or more yards (10).
This should be a fun matchup on Sunday as Taylor looks to make history at Lucas Oil Stadium.
