The last time these two teams played, a rookie went off on a historic performance. Now, it will be for the AFC championship and a trip to the Super Bowl.

The Bengals will travel to Kansas City to face the Chiefs in a rematch of a a Week 17 game that Cincinnati won, 34-31. In that game, rookie wideout Ja’Marr Chase set the NFL record for most receiving yards by a rookie in a single game when he caught 11 passes for 266 yards with three touchdowns. Chase and quarterback Joe Burrow will look to try to replicate that, though, this time, the game will be played on the road.

The Chiefs are fresh off of their wild divisional round victory in which quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the offense marched 44 yards down the field to set up a game-tying field goal in a drive that lasted just 13 seconds. The Chiefs beat the Bills, 42-36 in overtime, but may have suffered a big blow in the process. Star safety Tyrann Mathieu, whom the team moves all over its defensive formations, sustained a concussion. Mathieu returned to practice Thursday and could be in line to return. If he’s unable to go, however, it would be a big setback for Kansas City against a potent Bengals outfit.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase (1) avoids Kansas City Chiefs outside linebacker Nick Bolton (54) for a 72-yard touchdown during the Jan. 2 game in Cincinnati.
