The Kansas City Chiefs could be down a pair of starters on the defensive side of the ball this Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid spoke to the media after practice on Friday, providing an update on some new injuries ahead of Week 3’s game. After showing up limited on the injury report with a hamstring injury on Thursday, Reid confirmed an aggravated hamstring injury for Frank Clark. He also confirmed a new injury for a starter in the secondary.

(Frank) Clark strained his hamstring yesterday during practice,” Reid began. “Charvarius Ward showed up today with a strained quad. So, both of them are getting treatment. We’ll just have to see where we’ll go from there.”

Everyone besides Clark and Ward participated in practice in some capacity according to Reid. Big Red also clarified that Clark’s hamstring injury is the other hamstring and not the one that kept him out of the preseason and Week 1.

“It’s the other hamstring,” Reid said. “So it’s a different one. That one is pretty healed. He’s been healed, our training staff is on top of all that. We don’t put guys out there if they can’t go.”

That last bit is something to monitor when the injury report comes out later today. While Reid suggested the team will wait and see on both Clark and Ward, these injuries could prove serious enough to earn at least a questionable game status designation for Sunday’s game against Los Angeles.

If Clark is unable to play on Sunday, it’d be a big blow to the run defense. They’d likely make Joshua Kaindoh active as a result. If Ward is unable to play on Sunday, it’ll bump Rashad Fenton and Chris Lammons up the depth chart. It could also be the first time that the Chiefs make Deandre Baker active for a game this season.
