McMichael, Lapierre among top Caps’ prospects at rookie camp originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

The Capitals released the roster for rookie camp Wednesday that will serve as the precursor to next week’s full training camp. Among the attendees will be 2019 first-round pick Connor McMichael and 2020-first round pick Hendrix Lapierre.

The rookie camp will begin Saturday and run through Monday before veterans report for physical testing on Sept. 22.

Three of the team’s 2021 NHL draft picks — Vincent Iorio, Haakon Hanelt and Dru Krebs — will also participate.

Here is the full 20-player list for rookie camp.

McMichael and Lapierre are considered the team’s top two prospects. McMichael could see call-up duty in the NHL this season after a successful year with AHL Hershey in 2021.

The defense does not include prospects Martin Fehervary and Alex Alexeyev. Both defensemen will be players to watch in training camp with an opening on the blueline for the Caps this season that one of those players is likely to fill.
