Capturing the perfect bird photo takes time, patience, and a lot of luck.

Photographer David Reid loves nothing more than to take his canoe out on Lake Ontario, breathe in some fresh air, calm his mind, and hopefully find a bird nestled in the reeds. It’s really a game of chance but going out often, to places people don’t normally go, is the key.

He also firmly believes that the weather shouldn’t stop you from getting a really great shot. Many of our feathered friends aren’t afraid of cold and snow, and neither should you be.

In this episode of Candid Closeup, David Reid tells Kim MacDonald that he is not a birder per se but rather a bird photographer. He relies on the birder community to help him find and identify the quirky creatures he’s grown to love.
